America's Greatest Hits 1946 (Acrobat Music)



1946年に生まれたすべてのTOP10ヒット98曲を収めた4枚組CD.世界大戦は終結したものの、リソース不足は継続していたのか同じ曲の競作バージョンがやたらと収録されているが、通常この手のコンピレーションでは有名アーティストが優先され、選曲から漏れるケースが多いマイナーアーティストのバージョンも漏れなく収録されているのが、チャートマニアには有難い。以前紹介した1945年編でも触れたかもしれないが40年代前半にあれだけ隆盛したビッグバンド・ジャズ系の楽団の名前が目立って減っている一方で、それ以前から活動している“スウィート・バンド”系の楽団がしぶとくヒットチャートに登場し続けている点は、今後より詳しく研究すべき課題かもしれない。

1946年にはアメリカとソ連の間で早くも冷戦が始まっていたようで、南米各国を資本主義圏に取り込む文化政策があったのかラテン調のナンバーがヒットチャートに目立って増えていたり、一方でこの年にヒット曲を連発した「ARA (American Recording Artists)」なるインディ・レーベルが、実はソ連の諜報網をサポートするロシア資本の会社だったり・・と、当時の政治背景も知った上で聴くと興味深い。
